CEC Member Yurii Miroshnychenko Participated in the International Election Observation Program in the Republic of Korea

Yurii Miroshnychenko, a Member of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, participated in the 2026 International Election Observation Program (IEOP) organized by the National Election Commission of the Republic of Korea on the occasion of the 9th Nationwide Simultaneous Local Elections.

The program took place in Seoul from 29 May to 5 June 2026 and brought together 32 representatives of election management bodies and international organizations from 11 countries around the world.

The initiative aimed to familiarize participants with the electoral practices of the Republic of Korea, facilitate the exchange of professional experience among election administrations from different countries, and strengthen international cooperation in the development of democratic institutions.

As part of the program, Yurii Miroshnychenko participated in the opening ceremony and sessions introducing Korea’s electoral system, visited early voting polling stations, observed election campaign activities, and gained first-hand insight into voting procedures on election day.

In addition, participants visited the National Election Commission of the Republic of Korea, the Korean Civic Education Institute for Democracy (KOCEI), the National Assembly, and the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Korea. Particular attention was paid to analysing mechanisms aimed at ensuring transparency and public trust in the electoral process, as well as to observing the work of the vote-counting centre.

According to Yurii Miroshnychenko, international professional dialogue among election management bodies is an important component of strengthening democratic institutions:

“The exchange of practical experience with colleagues from different countries allows us to better understand the contemporary challenges facing electoral processes and to identify effective solutions for strengthening public trust in electoral institutions. For Ukraine, which continues to uphold democratic values even in times of war, such international cooperation is of particular importance.”

The participation of representatives of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine in the program marked another step towards enhancing international cooperation and professional exchange in the field of election administration.
